El Canillita

Spanish Weekly

El Canillita is a Spanish language newspaper that reports local and national news with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking countries.  They focus on the news, stories about Hispanic artists, sports, personals and classifieds.  The newspaper includes opinions and editorial columns, such as “La Migra y Tú” y “El Rincón de Waterbury.”  The weekly paper is available in Hartford, Bridgeport, Danbury, New Britain, and New Haven, Norwalk, Stamford, and Waterbury. El Canillita is free; it is distributed in supermarkets, civic centers, churches, corner-stores and other businesses in the city.

Spanish Every Thursday

El Sol is a weekly, Spanish-language newspaper with information on local news in the State of Connecticut, as well as national and local news.  El Sol emphasizes business and money and has information on credit cards, advice on how to buy a house, and how to manage your personal finances.  It also has columns on immigration, the Latino community, and a special column about women’s roles in that community.  The weekly newspaper is available every Thursday; in addition, there is a monthly version of El SolLa Revista, a magazine version, that focuses on science and technology, entertainment and style, sports, and humor.  Both El Sol the newspaper and the magazine are free, and available in supermarkets, libraries, legal offices, restaurants, doctor’s offices, travel agencies, stores, and other businesses. English Weekly

The Harford Advocate is an English-language newspaper with a positive spin on Harford and a satirical stance towards mainstream news representations of the city.  It caters towards young people with sections on music, stage, screen, arts and literature and dining.  In addition to the local news, there are opinions columns, personals, and a blog.

Identidad Latina

Spanish Bi-weekly

Identidad Latina is a Spanish-language newspaper with information on local and national news as well as news from Latin American countries.  It focuses on education, public health, and Latino art and culture.  It offers opinion columns and editorials and a special section of biographies of “Latinos de Oro,” that interviews local individuals with inspiring stories.  Identidad Latina is free, and is available in schools and universities (including Trinity College), hospitals, libraries, churches, Latino cultural organizations and other businesses.  You can open an account online by clicking on the above website link.

La Voz Hispana de Connecticut



La Voz Hispana de Connecticut is a weekly, independent newspaper that tries to serve as a medium through which the Hispanic community in Hartford can organize information, opinions, critiques and exposes in order to advance the Hartford Latino community.  They emphasize local news and that of Spanish speaking countries, and have information about education and the economic situation of Hartford.  They profile outstanding students, as well as organizations that contribute to the economy of the community, and those that provide a positive example to Hartford.
